The department of biochemistry was established in 1983 in the faculty of sciences. Since its establishment, around 4500 students have been graduated from the department till 2019 including male and female sections. Our undergraduate program was designed to produce highly qualified and well-trained biochemist that can fulfil the different demands in multiple fields such as industry, research, healthcare, and more. Furthermore, our students during their time on the program are exposed to a wide range of topics and subjects that assure a solid establishment of their biochemistry foundations and allow them to become more independent and innovative when solving problems or making decisions.  The biochemistry bachelor's degree in our university is offered only by our department, and our graduates attain some unique qualities and skills that allowed many of them to hold leading positions in different fields and disciplines. The biochemistry department obtained ABET academic accreditation in order to improve the quality and efficiency of the education in the department.

The Biochemistry program has adopted ABET 6 general-criteria outcomes for the ANSAC Commission as:

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve broadly defined technical or scientific problems by applying knowledge of mathematics and science and/or technical topics to areas relevant to the discipline.
  2. An ability to formulate or design a system, process, procedure or program to meet desired needs.
  3. An ability to develop and conduct experiments or test hypotheses, analyze and interpret data and use scientific judgment to draw conclusions.
  4. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  5. An ability to understand ethical and professional responsibilities and the impact of technical and/or scientific solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  6. An ability to function effectively on teams that establish goals, plan tasks, meet deadlines, and analyze risk and uncertainty.

The Biochemistry program has further differentiated the outcomes in terms of the type of skills they depict as per ABET guidelines: 1-3 focus on technical or “hard” skills, while 4-6 focus on “soft” skills. These SOs are documented in the undergraduate college catalog, department and college website.

The department of Biochemistry has also obtained full accreditation certificate from Education & Training Evaluation Commission from October 2022 to September 2027.
